Israeli airstrikes kill woman, injure 20 in Nabatieh

Israeli airstrikes on Nabatieh killed one woman and injured 20 others, prompting Lebanese outrage.

AhlulBayt News Agency: On Friday, Israeli airstrikes struck the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, killing one woman and injuring 20 others. Lebanese officials condemned the attack as a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement.

According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, 13 people were wounded when an Israeli drone hit a residential apartment near the Teachers’ House. Seven others were injured in separate strikes on the outskirts of Nabatieh and the nearby town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa.

Israeli warplanes also bombed the Jabal Shqaif area, claiming to target a site allegedly linked to Hezbollah’s air defense systems. The Israeli military accused Hezbollah of trying to rebuild a previously dismantled facility, calling it a breach of prior understandings.

In response, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam denounced the strikes as a serious violation of the ceasefire and a threat to regional peace.

President Joseph Aoun urged the international community to intervene, accusing Israel of ignoring repeated diplomatic appeals to de-escalate tensions.

Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry sent a formal letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, requesting the renewal of UNIFIL’s mandate to help prevent further conflict along the border.

Since the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah began on November 27, 2024, Israel has reportedly committed over 3,000 violations, resulting in at least 223 deaths and more than 500 injuries.

Despite the truce, Israeli forces still occupy five key hills in southern Lebanon that were seized during last year’s offensive, with only a partial withdrawal carried out so far.
